Cooking Steaks with Sunlight in South Africa (video)

Using coal and kerosene to fuel a stove is both costly and hazardous. Social entrepreneur Crosby Menzies hopes it will become a thing of the past in Africa. He rolled out his solar cooker, a satellite-dish shaped oven that uses sunlight to cook meals, in the Johannesburg township of Soweto. By employing locals like Mthobisa Cebekhulu, he believes he can bring it to other impoverished parts of the continent.

  1. The best !
    Thanks Crosby!
We use our solar cooker every day (except when its overcast) … it cook’s our teas & coffees, our meals, the dogs and cats meals and the pigs pap.

We cook stews, we fry … boil water … even bake breads.

its wonderful … remember to wear glasses its super bright .. and hot !!!!

Only down side with this model is the sticky shiny bits that peel a bit with weather and cleaning.
Hopefully in the next model there will be a more rugged lasting shiny surface like the older ones. Then ill save up and get another!
I love the way it spins and moves.

Feels good to be eating sunlight.

All in all a must have cooker !!!

    Thanks guys
    Happy Toes

  2. So where can we order one of these? There wasn’t even a mention of the company from what I saw. I’m all for getting a good piece of gear that cooks on solar energy and rewards people and companies that are making truly good and thoughtful products. Thanks for sharing… if anyone knows the answer!
