Community Projects

Tamera, Portugal (John D. Liu Video)

John D. Liu of the EEMP treats us to another look at permaculture solutions in application — this time with the Tamera project in Portugal.

Tamera is a peace research village with the goal of becoming “a self-sufficient, sustainable and duplicatable communitarian model for nonviolent cooperation and cohabitation between humans, animals, nature, and Creation for a future of peace for all." [1] It is also often called a “healing biotope." [2] Literally translated, "biotope" simply means a place where life lives. In Tamera, however, “healing biotope” is also described as a “greenhouse of trust,” “an acupuncture point of peace,” and “a self-sufficient future community." [2] It is located on 335 acres (1.36 km2) in the Alentejo region of southwestern Portugal. — Wikipedia

  1. Hi,
I’ve just seen your video, and would like to ask your advise. It has been a dream of mine for many years to have an ‘off grid’ property. I am selling my villa in Spain with a view to buying an eco property near to you in Mooji. I am selling one of my businesses in London but want to take advantage of the tax concessions in Portugal for residents. I wondered if you know this property? It can be found by using this link https://www.sustainable-properties-forsale.com/adverts/SP0020/fd_SP0020.html.
I would rather put my profits from the sale of the business in to buying this property rather than giving it to the Spanish tax man!!
I think this property has a lot of potential. Can you tell me if you know of it or the area. I would like to stay in touch as I would love to come and visit you over the coming months to see what you have achieved in Tamera.

I, too believe that water is going to be a future commodity and I wanted land with food producing trees which this land seems to have
