Just Say No to GMO

Dear Reader

As we near the end of 2010, I wanted to personally thank you for helping to make this year an unprecedented success in raising awareness about the dangers of genetically modified organisms (GMOs). Supermarket News predicted the upsurge in US consumer concern 2010, and it’s happening.

With your support, we’re getting our message out to millions each month through print, media, and internet channels. During October’s Non-GMO Month, the popular health newsletter Mercola.com emailed our GMO articles every day for a week to over 1.5 million homes, followed by a videotaped interview of Dr. Mercola and I.

Mike Adams, the Health Ranger, sent out a week’s worth of articles to hundreds of thousands of NaturalNews.com subscribers, and released his awesome Just Say No to GMO music video above. You gotta see this.

Natural News also pledged to match up to $10,000 of donations to our Institute and support came flying in from his loyal, healthy readers (thank you Mike and thank you NaturalNews readers).

I had almost 100 media interviews this year. Here’s a recent one, where I get a little more personal. I spoke in Iowa, Michigan, Colorado, Ohio, Illinois, Washington, Missouri, Canada, and throughout California.

In response to your enthusiasm for our work, we’re training others to speak about GMOs using webinars and in-person classes. We’ll have nearly 200 people trained by year’s end.

Our office has been swamped since September with requests for Shopping Guides, Health Risk Brochures, Non-GMO Education Centers, and other materials, as retailers, healthcare practitioners, and enthusiastic consumers jumped on board the non-GMO bandwagon.

You’ll be happy to know that several high profile GMO issues made headlines in 2010:

  • The Supreme Court ruled in our favor, and kept GM alfalfa out.
  • A federal court banned the selling of GM sugar beets.
  • An appeals court ruled against the draconian rbGH labeling restrictions in Ohio.
  • And Frankenfish are swimming upstream against 91% of Americans who don’t want ’em.

There’s more good news. Monsanto’s herbicide Roundup, which is sold with most GM crops, is imploding. Its overuse has spawned a new generation of superweeds that are resistant to its toxic effects. And Roundup’s promotion of soil pathogens seems to be creating an explosion of plant disease, including widespread Sudden Death Syndrome in soybeans, and possibly Mad Soy Disease in South America.

Monsanto’s highly touted Roundup Ready 2 soybeans and Smart Stax corn were flops, forcing the company to drop their inflated prices. In just 11 months, Monsanto’s fortunes went from Forbes “Company of the Year” to the Worst Stock of the Year. Forbes apologized.

Yes, it’s a very good time for us all, and thank you so much for making this happen. Your continued support, your personal commitment to avoid GM foods, and your enthusiasm for getting the word out to others is making the difference.

Continued Safe Eating,

Jeffrey

  1. I just saw a teacher yesterday rapping mathematics after getting tired of the low grades in his classes, and when rapping rather than talking the grades boomed.

Very good video! Maybe we should make some rapping permaculture videoes as well?

  2. I once spent 2 hours on the phone talking to a scientist employed by Monsanto as part of one of their early PR campaigns. They were providing a freephone number for people to call up and talk to their scientists who were employed to explain to the general public about how GMOs work, in order to help promote awareness and de-mystify GMOs.

As part of this telephone conversation, I felt it was important for me to be able to try to understand exactly what GMOs actually were.

Part of the public image of GMOs in their early developmental years, was the fact that nobody knew exactly what they were, so therefore there was a lot of fear. People knew that they were ‘unnatural’ but that was about it. Nobody knew exacttly ‘how’. Promises on giant billboards that GMOs would save the world were not necessarily trusted in the UK in particular, where there is a wide-spread skepticism of advertising industry in general, so therefore the promises to save the world were not necessarily believed. This skepticism of ‘Western advertising’ in other countries instead, is not necessarily always so clearly defined. Therefore I felt that it was important to understand the process of how genetic engineering actually took place, in order that I might be able to effectively argue against GMOs in the future, based on logical understanding of the process from essentially interviewing an actual scientist first, rather than from skepticism based on emotional ‘fear’.

After 2 hours of asking numerous questions of the Monsanto employed scientist, I was eventually able to learn how the process of creating GMOs actually occured. As can be seen by the length of time spent on the telephone conversation, the process of extracting the precise information in relation to the process of how ‘GMOs’ are actually created, needed a lot of time, to clearly and precisely understand. The process of extracting the precise information in fact, could be described as comparable to extracting teeth.

I was eventually told that for GMOs to be created, it actually takes quite a long time and requires a long and difficult ‘scientific’ process. Normally genetic material as we know it, on this planet, requires for DNA to be broken down into its constituent parts and unravelled into RNA and then re-created, normally as part of the conventional reproductive cycles of different animal and plant kingdoms. This is what defines ‘the reproductive cycles of life’.

For this elaborate process to be interfered with, and interrupted and tampered with, therefore requires ‘engineering’ – which is a mild way of describing what is actually needed in order to break down the basic buiilding blocks of life.

What is actually used, is what was described to me as an apparatus which acts like a microscopic version of a machine gun which fires foreign DNA into the DNA and RNA structures being ‘engineered’ at micro levels, in order to break the cellular structures of ‘life’ down. This process takes a long time, and it is only when the DNA structure has been subject to a long and lengthy process of having foreign DNA material fired at it by a microscopic equivalent of an AK47 that the genetic material that makes up ‘life’ will actually break down. At this point, the foreign DNA materials, that come from bacterial and viral agents, are then able to connect to the genetic material that has been broken down and will be able to be used as ‘sticking plasters’ to attach to the ends of the original genetic material that has been bombarded and broken down in order to stick the new genetic material required by the process of making GMOs. So therefore what is essentially happening is the microscopic equivalent of someone having their leg shot at for a number of hours until their entire leg is shattered, and then a microbaterial agent is used to act as biological superglue to add the leg of someone else.

Using viral and bacterial agents in order to glue ‘new’ genetic material onto pre-existing stable genetic structures therefore means that the ‘new’ genetic material that has been inserted into the genetically modified organism, is then treated by the rest of the organism, in the same way as nature normally deals with foreign bacterial or viral agents, i.e. as foreign, toxic, and dangerous agents.

This is why the process of genetic engineering is such a long and dangerous process since it interferes with the basic building blocks of life, and uses toxic, harmful processes that are considered as ‘anti-life’ at a basic micro-level.

Some scientific studies done on people or animals that have consumed GMOs have shown that the ‘foreign material’ contained in the ‘new genetic material’ held within the ‘host’ genetic organism, will not be recognised by the organism that consumes it. So for example, if someone eats a GMO which contains foreign elements in it, inserted using viral and bacterial agents, the digestive system of that person will recognise the foreign viral and bacterial agents as exactly that: – i.e. foreign viral and bacterial agents, that will therefore cause stress related immune reactions to the material and treat them as exactly what they are: i.e. foreign, unknown agents, that the body can not comprehend, nor process, nor digest, and therefore they will not be absorbed by the body and will be treated as the foreign toxic agents that they actually are.

Therefore eating a GMO banana, with foreign material inserted into its genetic structure, using viral and bacterial agents, will be treated by the body as the equivalent of eating a banana diseased with viral and bacterial agents. There are some reports that have concluded as a result that the GMO material can be considered carcinogenic and cancer forming as a result.

The effects of disease on cow populations fed on GMOs for example continue to be under-reported.

There are many more side-effects of GMOs that I could describe, but I think that the basic concept that needs to be understood is that GMOs are ‘not healthy’ because the natural world which has evolved over millions of years already has basic defense mechanisms set in place to deal with these kinds of organisms.

Normally genetic mutation within the process of reproduction within species will be met with either one of 2 results. Either disease, and death or enhancement and life.

By their very nature, GMOs are doomed to failure from the start, since they go against the basic fundemental principles of life. The science of bombarding the basic building blocks of life with pathogens may be described as ‘engineering’ and therefore sound ‘advanced’ but actually it is not. Just because it occurs at a microscopic level, does not necessarily mean that it is ‘scientific’ and therefore ‘safe’.

In a future world that survives a frankenstein world of GMO experimentation in our modern world, GMOs will be seen as a dangerous experiment. Understanding of genetics can help the world, but this is more likely to be through genetic screening, or through developing seed saving banks in order to save and preserve the life of species on the planet as we know it already.

We don’t need GMOs. The only reason that can remotely justify for GMO technology to continue today, can only be described as the companies that have invested in the industry as attempting to ‘save face’ and to re-gain some money back from the money that they have invested in this failed science.

The world does not need GMOs and never will. GMOs created using long and expensive processes that go against the basic fundementals of how life processes actually work on this planet, will not help save ‘life’ on this planet. They will just spread disease and destroy life, and if the companies that created these technologies want to profit from spreading disease and destruction as pathogens across the planet, then they need to be identified for exactly what they are – biological agents of mass destruction that will not save the planet and never can.

Therefore, to be responsible citizens with global responsibility to help our planet, and to increase the processes of life and biodiversity on this planet, we need to do all that we can to expose those who aim to profit from GMOs and to seek where we can, to end their use within the agro-food industry and to help to steer our planet back to a more sustainable life, more in tune with the forces of nature, that originally shaped us, from where we originally came.

  4. Do you know that giant agrochemical companies have launched a massive venture to genetically restructure the world’s food supply?

    Do you know . . .

    * that the genetic blueprints of fruits, grains, and vegetables are being restructured with conglomerations of DNA from viruses, bacteria, insects, and animals?

    * that over 60% of processed foods consumed in the U.S. now contain ingredients from genetically engineered crops?

    * that numerous distinguished scientists view this genetic restructuring of food as a threat to both human and environmental health?

    * that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration covered up the extensive warnings of its own scientific experts about the unique risks of genetically engineered foods and claims it is not aware of any information showing they differ from other foods?

    * that besides violating sound science, the genetic restructuring of our food affronts the core principles of most religions?
