Chicago’s Chicken Ordinance

This is a rather amusing look at Chicago’s ‘Chicken Ordinance’.

The moral of the story is if it’s not on paper, it doesn’t exist.

  1. Awesome. This is what John Adams meant by “a government of laws and not of men.” I went through the same thing with my city. The animal control guy came out to investigate the 20 chickens eventually and said I should ask them before doing anything with chickens. I let that pass, but I should have told him I already read the law myself and I certainly didn’t need him to interpret it for me.

  2. So what they said was I could have 6 chickens for a residential block under 800 square meters. She was very friendly and knew exactly where to get the information.
