Permaculture Project Establishment Course - Permaculture Aid in Action, at the PRIs Zaytuna Farm, NSW, Australia

This course is a fifty/fifty mix of the theory and practice of permaculture project establishment with Geoff and Nadia Lawton - specifically designed to give a reference and realistic expectation of the requirements to establish a permaculture project potentially anywhere worldwide, and to give an initial preparation for the same.

 



Requirements: To attend this course, students must have completed a PDC and provide a certificate as proof.

This course is taught under the supervision of Geoff Lawton and taught by Geoff Lawton and other PRI team members.

With current world issues of depleting energy supplies, increasing energy demand, population growth and a resulting escalating food and environmental crisis, etc., there is increasing demand for trained, capable workers to fill permaculture spots worldwide - helping with the development of projects, or pioneering new projects.

Such projects provide challenging and rewarding work and experience, and can be a springboard for a serious, career in permaculture.

An outline of a generic permaculture project implementation follows:

- How to consult and create an initial analysis and assessment of needs for both local landscape and people, so the best site can be chosen.

- Draw up a plan to fulfill these needs, covering the development of: initial earthworks, building design and materials, energy systems, waste systems and agricultural production.

- Each project would incorporate all built infrastructure facilities appropriate for the local region including housing, renewable energy systems, waste systems, animal systems, natural biological fertilizer systems, soil testing equipment, nursery and tools.

- Each project would have a three-year phased development timescale for completion, culminating in an established working that can be used as a demonstration site and education centre - managed and run by local labour.

The course will cover aspects such as:

- How to work with local legal systems to set up project non-profit organisation and for-profit businesses beneficially working together on the same project site.

- How to set up local community interaction, education systems, farm management systems, administration systems - all the elements needed for a new project.

- Cultural and historic analysis of sites.

Pricing options

All prices are in Australian dollars. The fee for the course is $1100, including GST, meals and camping accommodation. A non-refundable $110 deposit is required at the time of the booking. The balance of $990 is due before the course start date. An early bird discount of 10% is available if the course fee is paid 42 days prior to the course start date.
